Obituary of Leslie "LW" Wilkes

Mr. Leslie Wyatt "L.W." Wilkes, Jr. age 83 of Crossville, Alabama passed away Friday (February 27, 2009) at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm - Sunday (March 1, 2009) from the Freeman's Chapel FMC Church with Bro. Franklin Pope, Kerry Bryant, and Dwight Gary officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel in charge.
Survivors-(wife) Imogene Davis Wilkes of Crossville, Alabama; (daughter) Jeanine & Dwight Gary of Crossville, Alabama; (son) Nelson & Shirley Wilkes of Crossville, Alabama; (sisters) Tiajuana & Vondell West of Painter, Mary Alice Jones of Painter, Colene & Eugene Morgan of Crossville, Alabama; (brother) Wayne & Kim Wilkes of Macedonia; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren;
During his time on earth, God bestowed upon him a multitude of blessings. In 1925 he entered the world as the firstborn child of Leslie and Jewel Wilkes. He was later blessed with three beautiful sisters, Tiawana, Mary Alice and Colene, along with two fine brothers, Earl and Wayne. He attended Crossville High School and Auburn University. In 1947 he married the love of his life, Imogene Davis.
L.W.'s life could be summed up as that of a servant. He served his Savior, his country and his family. Just one day after his 19th birthday, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, where he served during World War II. In July 1954, he gave his heart to the Lord and was later ordained as a Deacon in April 1961. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a faithful member of Freemans Chapel FMC Church.
Within their marriage, L.W. and Imogene became the proud parents of three amazing children, Jeanine, Wyatt and Nelson. They were later blessed with eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wilkes was preceded in deat by his Parents (leslie and Jewel Wilkes), Brother (Earl Wilkes), Son (Wyatt Wilkes), and 2 great grandchildren (Gage Richards and Victoria Norwood).
The family would like to send out a special word of thanks to the precious people at Hospice of Marshall County.
