Obituary of Samuel Dewayne Kelly

Please share a memory of Samuel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Samuel D. Kelly, 55, went to be with the Lord January 11, 2018 after courageously battling cancer.  He was born October 8, 1962 in Gadsden, Alabama.  Sam was a 1980 graduate of Albertville High School and attended Snead State Community College.  He was active in the local Boy Scout troop in Albertville where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.  Sam accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 11 and was baptized into the church by his father.  As a child, he attended Walnut Park Baptist Church in Gadsden and Solitude Baptist Church in Albertville where his father served as pastor.

He began his retail career at Hammer's in Guntersville before he moved to Huntsville as the Store Manager of Edward's Furniture which later became Sticks and Stuff.  After 20 years of service, he opened his own furniture business, Bedz & More and Bedz for Kidz.   After he closed his business, he devoted himself to serving his church and community.  Sam was an active member of Willowbrook Baptist Church in Southeast Huntsville for 16 years where he served as a deacon, RA Leader, various Men's ministries, and children's ministries.  The joy of his life was serving others through teaching, mentoring, and loving on his church family and the community.  He was known to be a great cook who spent every summer at church camps cooking for the children he loved and who loved "Mr Sam".

He is survived by his loving wife, Tonya Jones Kelly and his two beautiful children Andrew Kelly and Samantha Kelly.  He is the son of Reverend Willis and Mary Lois Kelly of Albertville.   His brothers: David Kelly (Cindy) of Franklin, TN and Jon Kelly (Debra) of Canton, GA.  His sister: Miriam Kelly of Huntsville.   Preceded in death by his fraternal grandparents: Byron and Audie Kelly; maternal grandparents: Valdosta and Ada May Collins

Appreciation to his mother-in-law, Sarah Stow of Tupelo, MS who helped care for Sam during his illness.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 14th 2pm - 5pm and Monday January 15th 10:00am - 11:00am with funeral service to follow.  Both will be held at Willowbrook Baptist Church in Huntsville.  Graveside service will be at 3:00 pm at the Skirum Community Cemetery near Geraldine.

In lieu of flowers, the Sam Kelly Camp Fund has been established in his honor to allow more children to experience the joy of attending church camp and missions.   Donations can be made to this fund at Willowbrook Baptist Church in his name.
