Obituary of Lee Dell Barnes

Lee Dell Barnes, 90, formerly a long-time resident of Huntsville, Ala., passed away at St. Martin’s in the Pines in Birmingham, Ala. on May 24th, 2018. She was the daughter of Lee and Zula Bell. Lee was preceded in death by her husband, LTC RET John Milford Barnes; her daughters Tanda Vandiver and Donna Bowling; and her grandsons John and Will Vandiver. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Brian Englebert; her grandchildren, Ben Englebert, Blair Englebert, and Savannah Bowling; and her sisters, Maudellen Welch and Jo Ann Gregory. Lee was a member of the Bicentennial Chapel at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala.

After graduating from Fyffe High School, Lee received an education degree from Auburn University, where she later became a member of the Samford and Foy society. Lee married John Milford Barnes, and they enjoyed traveling the world together during their military career until LTC Barnes’ retirement. Several U.S. Army base locations, including Munich, Germany and Ft. Benning, Ga., were home to her and her family. Lee was a faithful follower of the Lord and a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She loved traveling, music and singing, and her family. The funeral will be held on May 26th 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel in Rainsville, Ala. Her brother-in-law, Dr. Bobby Welch of Daytona Beach, Fla., will perform the services. The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses, caregivers and clergy at St. Martin’s in the Pines for their support and care during this difficult time.
