Obituary of Shelby Jean Moore

Please share a memory of Shelby to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Shelby Jean (Smith) Moore, age 75, went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2018 at her home in Florence, Mississippi.

Shelby was born in Fyffe, Alabama on September 27, 1942 and later moved to Detroit, Michigan at the age of 6. She was the daughter of the late Charles Smith and Ola Mae (Berry) Smith and a loving sister to Rayford Smith and Jerry Smith.

Shelby married her true love, Bill Moore, on November 4, 1959. Theirs was a love story like no other and was a wonderful example that true love does exist. Shelby invested most of her time into adoring and raising her four children -- Kim Bevill, Tim Moore (Annette), Lisa Williams (Voyce) and Brenda (Randy) Spell.

Shelby also poured herself into the role of grandmother and great-grandmother to her 12 grandchildren -- Jason Harrison, Chad Harrison (Megan), Nick Harrison, Madison Bevill, Mandi Murphy (Chris), Jeffrey Holley, Nathan Holley, Andrew Moore, Benjamin Moore, Amber Moore, David Spell (Brandy) and Jonathan Spell and 3 great-grandchildren -- Cameron Murphy, Caleb Murphy and Levi Holley.

The memories and laughter shared with her family throughout the years will never be forgotten. She showed all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren the true definition of unconditional love.

Shelby was employed at Wal-Mart for over 20 years and retired in 2010. Any of her former managers would tell you she was dependable, hard-working and a joy to be around. Shelby’s hobbies included sewing, crafting and gardening. After retirement Shelby enjoyed working in her yard and spending time with her family. She often could be found on her zero-turn mower cutting grass while sporting her red bandana headband. She loved singing old gospel hymns and would occasionally break out in an Elvis tune or two. She was also famous for her homemade cat-head biscuits and peach cobbler.

As a devoted Christian for 59 years, Shelby served her churches in many ways. She was a dedicated wife of a minister investing herself into the lives of thousands of people over the course of their ministry. Her lively and spirited personality made her a great ambassador for her faith and love for her Savior. Shelby was a friend to many and was known for her commitment and devotion to her family, for her passion for life, her readiness to help a friend or stranger, her integrity and strength of character, and her strong Christian faith. It is easy to see, hers was a life well lived.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday July 28, 2018 at 2:00p.m. in the chapel at W.T. Wilson funeral home in Rainsville, Alabama. Burial service will take place at Kirk Memorial Gardens in Rainsville, Alabama.
