Obituary of Franklin "Frank" Delano Hammond

FRANKLIN DELANO HAMMOND

Franklin (Frank) Delano Hammond (83) passed away on November 22, 2018 at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice in Albertville, Alabama.  Visitations will be 5pm-8pm on Friday, November 23, 2018 at W. T. Wilson Funeral Home in Rainsville, Alabama and 12pm-1pm on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Highway Church of God in Lakeview, Alabama.  Funeral services will be at Highway Church of God in Lakeview, Alabama at 1pm with burial following the funeral service at Highway Cemetery.

Frank is survived by three children Kim Hammond of Pulaski, Tennessee; Hanley Hammond of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; and Amy Hammond Childress of Rainsville, Alabama.  Frank is also survived by two grandchildren Chelsey Childress White (Dereck) of Henagar, Alabama and Levi Childress of Dawson, Alabama along with many other relatives and friends.

Frank was preceded in death by his mother Lola Mae (Burke) Hammond, father Ernest Colbert Hammond, and two brothers Hanley William Hammond and Homer Manuel Hammond.

Frank was born at home in Fyffe, Alabama on January 15, 1935.  He was a lifelong resident of Sand Mountain former residents in Henagar, Rainsville, Fyffe, Dawson, Lakeview and Kilpatrick.  He was a farmer, teacher and school principal. He was a (1953) graduate of Geraldine High School and (1957) Alabama A&M University.  He began his teaching career at Henagar Junior High School was Principal at Kilpatrick Junior High School.  During his teaching career he also taught at Adamsburg Elementary School, Ruhama School, Moon Lake Elementary School.  Frank also served in the Alabama National Guard for many years.

The family extends their sincerest gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and support staff of Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, Rehab Select at Albertville, for the superb care and kindness they extended.
