Obituary of Donald Wayne "Don" Dowdy, Sr.

Mr. Donald Wayne “Don” Dowdy, Sr., age 77, of Leesburg, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 3pm on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021 from W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery @ Keener. The family will receive friends from 1pm-3pm, prior to the service, on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021 at the funeral home. Officiating will be Bro. Nick Deweese. Don was born to R.E. and Rema Dowdy in Portersville, AL on October 9, 1943. On Thursday evening, February 25, 2021 Don passed from this world as he was resting at home. Don graduated from Collinsville High School in May of 1962 and soon afterward married Patricia Storey. Don and Pat celebrated 57 years of marriage on January 4, 2021. Don retired as Lead Electrician at Fruit of the Loom in Leesburg, AL in August of 2005. Don loved his church, Pleasant Hill Baptist of Sand Rock, AL. Don was an avid sports fan and displayed his love by coaching both Dixie Youth Baseball and Pee Wee Football in Collinsville and Fort Payne, AL. Don enjoyed fishing, restoring trucks and tractors, and supporting the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team. Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pat Dowdy; two children, Donna Dowdy and Wayne Dowdy (Darlene). Don also says “see you later” to his sisters, Betty Sue Fisher and Lillian Rothell (Bill) as well as remaining brother, Bruce Dowdy (Donna). Don also wants to say farewell to his five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, R.E. and Rema Dowdy, and his brother, Robert Dowdy (Wilma).
