Obituary of Doug Williams

Mr. Douglas McArthur “Cowboy” Williams age 79, of Crossville passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022. A graveside service will be held at 11am Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Dekalb Memorial Gardens with Rev. Pete Chadwick officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 until 8pm Wednesday at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife, Judy Machen Williams; son Kevin D. (Becky) Williams; daughter, Kimberly Williams (Scotty) Winfrey; grandsons, Wyatt Williams and Brayden Williams; sisters, Joyce Faye (Tom) Styles and Marie Coker; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, H.M. and Willene Williams; brother, Thomas “Doc” Williams; and sister, Edna Grace Brooks. Pallbearers will be Steve Davis, Steve Pack, Brodie Pack, Gary Beaty, Larry “Frog” West, and Scottie Hairston. The family requests no flowers, donations may be made to Geraldine First Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice. Douglas ‘Cowboy’ Williams, age 79, of Crossville, Alabama, was called home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2022. Depending on when you met him, you may have known him as Mac or Doug or Cowboy. Doug never met a stranger, loved children, and had an enormous heart. He helped a countless number of people be it someone in need, a donation to numerous sports fundraisers, or just a random gift to just brighten someone’s day. And most importantly, he never expected anything in return other than maybe a hug, a hand shake, or a thank you. Those were all he needed to give back that infectious smile. He loved helping people succeed no matter their journey. Doug loved his country and proudly served in the Army after he graduated from Crossville High School. After his military service, his passion became horses and rodeo. Doug bought, sold, raised, and trained an untold quantity of horses throughout his lifetime. When he wasn’t hard at work for Goodyear (where he retired), he was at a barn somewhere working as a skilled farrier, another trade he loved. He shoed horses in many places both near and far. He taught both his children to rope and ride just as he taught many others who he treated like his own. Doug loved children and made a positive impact on a lot of young lives through rodeo and other high school sporting events. He was involved with many rodeo associations during his lifetime and was a proud member of the Professional Cowboys Association Hall of Fame. He loved to hunt birds, fish, tell stories, and spend time with his friends and family. And maybe be involved in a Rook game or two. Doug touched many lives and will be missed by all of those who knew him, no matter whether they knew him as Doug, Mac or Cowboy.
