Martha Petty Knight
1946-2022
Martha Petty Knight (76) passed away peacefully on September 8, 2022, in Huntsville, Alabama.
Martha was born on January 23, 1946, in Gadsden, Alabama. Martha graduated from Fyffe High School in the spring of 1964, and on November 15, 1964, she married her sweetheart, Glenn Hugh Knight. Together they made a home and raised a family in Grove Oak, Alabama.
Martha attended Northeast Alabama Community College and worked at Farmers Telecommunications for over 30 years. She was a dedicated and active member of Kelly’s Chapel Baptist Church where she enjoyed serving as a choir member as well as working with the youth and children’s ministries. She was also a member of the Tenbroeck Homemakers Club where she was selected as Homemaker of the Year. Martha found great joy in shopping, fashion, travel, and loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband Glenn Hugh Knight of Grove Oak, Alabama; daughter Lisa Knight Laney of Arab, Alabama; son Steve Knight of Phoenix, Arizona; grandson Andrew Laney of Arab, Alabama; brother Dallas (Linda) Petty of Crossville, Alabama; sister Fran (Rymon) Sparks of Fyffe, Alabama; and a host of family of friends who loved her dearly.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents Rayburn and Ezzie Petty of Shiloh, Alabama.
The family will receive visitors celebrating Martha’s life between 5pm and 8pm on Wednesday, September 14th at W.T. Wilson Funeral Home in Rainsville, Alabama. The memorial service and celebration of Martha’s life will be held on Thursday, September 15th at 1pm at Kelly’s Chapel Baptist Church in Grove Oak, Alabama. Martha will lie in state for one hour immediately preceding the service.
Martha was loved and adored by all who knew her. It was often said that Martha never met a stranger and always had a smile on her face that could light up any room. Martha’s two children and her grandson were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Martha’s love for everyone, generosity of spirit, and zest for life will live on through them, as well as so many others whose lives she touched so deeply.
