Oran Raymond Ayers lll, 63 of Dawson, AL, passed away on 2/1/23 in UAB Medical Center.
The family will have visitation Sunday 2/5/23, from 4 till 8pm at WT Wilson Funeral Chapel.
Ray was born in Dekalb County, AL to Edith and Raymond Ayers on 4/9/61 and attended Fyffe High School. After graduation he served in the Army, where he was a helicopter mechanic. While living in Germany Jason Ray Ayers was born.
Ray retired from Heil Enviromental. During his career at Heil, he was a great weirder, supervisor, and friend to many. He was known for walking down the line saying "GET'ER DONE" or "Hammer Down Boys"! Oh the stories his coworkers can tell. It's even said he could weld with a cigarette in his mouth, not looking, carrying on a conversation, and do it perfect everytime. His second son was born 7/15/1987. Soon both sons followed in their fathers foot steps at Heil.
Raymond was an avid arrowhead hunter, with one of the nicest collections around. He loved growing a garden, raising chickens, goats, turkeys, horses, many dogs and cats. He's had pet raccoons, peacocks, ferrets, and snakes.
In 2008 Ray became Papa to Carlie Rae Ayers, named after him and Carlotta. He dressed up as Elmo for her birthday. When Carlie started went to Headstart, Papa took her to school everyday and walked her to class to make sure she was safe.
Two years later grand daughter number two was born. Raylee Danielle Ayers. Papa Ray was was off to beauty pageants. No matter what, she was the prettiest and sweetest around in his eyes.
Then came Jacie Michelle Ayers, grand daughter number three. She was his partner in everything, especially chickens. She followed him every step he took, and had lots of questions.
Grand daughter number four was Harmony Cheyanne Ayers. She was the spitting image of him. She was his dark haired, dark eyed baby doll. His "Wildflower".
[ ] In the past few years Ray faced many health complications, head on. Although he wasn't as physically active, he enjoyed keeping up with friends on social media. He was known for his good morning texts and encouraging messages. He will be missed by so many.
