Sherman was born to William Nelson and Eldie Bell Tinker on December 16, 1948. Sherman married Patricia Ann Tinker on September 19, 1966, and together they had two children, Shannon and Tim. Sherman was a good husband, dad, pawpaw, and friend. He was a talented saddle maker and a hard worker. Sherman also loved to deer and rabbit hunt. During deer season, he would get all warm and cozy beside a Mr. Buddy heater in the shooting house. He would become too warm and cozy because he would soon be falling asleep. Then, he would wake up and wonder why he hadn’t seen any deer. If you knew Sherman, you know that sounds exactly like him. He loved to have fun and was always a cutup. Chances are, if you spent much time with him, you have funny memories of him because he was constantly funny, even when he wasn’t meaning to be. Sherman was also a good child of God. His coming to the Lord story is a special one. Patricia would ask Sherman to go to church every Sunday, but she didn’t stop there, she would also lay his church clothes on the bed just in case he decided to go to church. Her prayers were answered, and Sherman later received the Holy Ghost as a twenty-four-year-old young man in April of 1972 and was baptized by Shelton Black in Flat Rock Creek. He found joy in Jesus and loved to serve Him through his singing. He sang bass in many groups throughout his singing career. His most requested songs while with Good News were “Go Jonah” and “Sending up Boards.” Sherman sent up his last board and finished his mansion and can now meet the master mansion builder in the sky.
